I’m baaaaack 🙂 & I think I am finally starting to get back into my old routine after coming home from our first EVER family vacay! Going into this trip there was one thing I had to promise myself – That I would leave blogger Cassie at home & not focus so much on capturing moments but rather living in the moment. Being a blogger ( I am sure a lot of you can relate) but this was REALLY HARD FOR ME! I gotta say though, I think overall I stuck to my word while getting just the right amount of shots I needed to remember this trip for a lifetime.
Rewinding to about a month ago I should probably tell you, I prepped & researched a ton! Granted this was a very relaxing / low key trip I was still flying for the first time ever with a toddler and that… was terrifying for me! We have all been on a flight at one point or other with an exhausted parent & screaming child & I’d already read all the horror stories about unexpected blow outs/ tantrums / & little ears not being able to withstand the air pressure so with all that in mind, I started my to-do list reaaaaaaal early. My only one real regret about the flight? Maybe considering that 3rd seat. Being that our son is under 3 years if age; he technically passes as a lap seat-er so being the penny pinchers we are we went ahead and decided to take our chances. Did it break us? NO! .. And thank goodness but it sure could have.
Our flight to Florida departed at 7 am and it’s about a 30 minutes drive to the airport so we were up by 4:30 am and on the road by 5. I was sure that with a late bedtime and early rise that our son would be all geared up for a long nap once seated but by the time we took off it was very evident that if there was going to be any nap at all, that it wouldn’t be for awhile! Luckily once boarded (mind you we boarded last and NOT by choice) it actually all went pretty well. To our surprise the flight wasn’t full at all and we lucked out with three empty seats all together. The ride itself was enough to occupy our very curious little guy but we made sure to bring along plenty of activities including window peel and sticks, coloring books, games, cars & a surprise plane gift that he had not seen yet- a slinky. That definitely took his mind off of being stuck in a confined space for pretty much the entire plane ride.
Well OK! I know what you are thinking… “You didn’t really think you were going to get just as lucky as you did the first time did you” And YEA.. yea actually we did! Well we hoped of course. But I am sure you see where this is going.. It was a VERY full flight on our way home & I immediately was a nervous wreck. I remember looking at Jake almost in tears because I was just exhausted, ready to be in my own bed & not mentally prepared for a 3 & a half hour tantrum with a large audience. We ended up sitting next to the sweetest women ever though! The first thing I said when she sat down next to the three of us was a “I apologize ahead of time for any potential fits or tears.” She just smiled and said she had grandchildren about Dash’s age and understood. HOW we got so lucky to have a happy toddler again.. (YES YOU GUYS! AGAIN!) I have ZERO clue how! He passed out about 30 minutes after take off and woke up a very happy camper with about an hour and a half left before we were home. I am still so proud of my little man for doing such an amazing job on his first plane ride & forever grateful we didn’t have any ear troubles.
Side Note – prior to flying I found this really awesome blog post about a brilliant momma that tried using warm water and paper cups to relieve some of her child’s pressure. I never had to use this tip but here is the link for anyone interested. SEE HERE
As for the trip itself, we had an amazing time with my family soaking up the sunshine & hanging out by the beach. We stayed in a sweet little Airbnb right on the ocean in Jensen Beach and it was beautiful! I’ve gotten a TON of questions about Disney’s Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party but there isn’t a TON to say other than that they killed it at making it an awesome and spooky experience for the party go-ers. We went on Halloween day & arrived around 4 pm. The party didn’t start till 7 so we used those 3 hours to ride a couple rides, shop & grab food; then when the party started the real fun began! We watched the Hocus Pocus show which was AMAZINGGGG, the Halloween parade & left right after the first fire work show. We were exhausted after-all and if I am being honest I think driving from Jensen Beach to Orlando was kind of a waste. Next time I would like to stay the night before and night of to take off some of the pressure and give us more time for rest. We planned for Dash to nap the drive there but in true little boy fashion, he refused which lead to a very rambunctious toddler that was almost incoherent by the time he got to meet Mickey! He crashed hard shortly after that and mom and dad did too!
I booked the cutest hotel room at Magic Moments Resort & Kids Club and was EXTREAMLY happy with our stay. The room was cozy & clean, the bed was amazing & the service was fantastic. I highly recommend checking it out if you are looking for something cheaper but still magical for the kids.
& that’s a wrap on my Florida 2017 Diary. Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by 🙂
